What OEM means in footwear
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) means you bring the design and the factory builds it to your specification. You own the design, tech pack, and IP; the manufacturer contributes engineering, tooling, and production. OEM gives you maximum control and a unique product, at the cost of doing — or commissioning — the design work yourself.
What ODM means in footwear
ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) means the factory already has a design — often a proven style — that you brand and tweak as your own. You customize colors, materials, logos, and packaging on an existing platform. ODM is faster and cheaper to launch because the development and tooling already exist, but the base design isn't exclusive to you.
